Laura is a writer from Chicago by way of New Orleans and Hawaii. She has a background in journalism and teaching.
In addition to serving as a language teacher at city primary schools and private high schools, she's taught writing at the University of New Orleans and the University of Illinois at Chicago. She was a Fulbright Fellow at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, as well as the Franz Kafka Fellow at the Prague School of Creative Communication. She's an advocate of Chicago's independent literary journals, having edited for MASKS Literary Magazine and Allium, a Journal of Poetry & Prose. In 2021, Laura was awarded the Fiction Award from The Tusculum Review. Laura holds an MA in linguistics and an MFA in creative writing. She loves books, beignets, and the Oxford comma. |
